Lesson 14 : Maternal Welfare Services

Health education

This is a continuous activity. Education can be provided to mother during medical examinations, home visits and treatment of minor ailments. Organized health talks are given at all clinic sessions. Education on preparation for delivery care of new born, nutritional requirements may be provided in the sessions.

Maternal health service:
Health starts in the prenatal life itself. Therefore, mothers health not only during pregnancy but ever before she conceives must be protected so as to ensure safe delivery and healthy children which is also very much necessary in reducing material and infant mortality rates in india. Prenatal and postnatal services which includes, maternity services, Marriage guidance, family planning, Retention of ill health and disabilities.

Dai training: Dai training is also a continual activity. Classes are organized for local practicing dais. They are encouraged to bring the pregnant woman to anti natal clinics and take the necessary benefits available in the MCH centre.
