Longitudinal studies have examined the characteristics of early and late mature as they grow older and reach adulthood. These studies reveal that
Early maturing boys
- Enjoy over their peers take more leadership roles later in life. They rate themselves more responsible and warmer but also more rigid and conforming
- Boys who are treated as younger rate themselves as more rebellious, impulsive, childish but also more creative.
- As they become adults they hold fewer executive jobs, report more successful marriages than do early maturing boys.
Early maturing girls
- Girls face many challenges from adults and peers while dealing with puberty, continue to experience difficulties as they grow older.
- They give birth to more number of children compared to late matured girls.
- They rate themselves as more self directed and self assured than later developing girls.
