Monitoring And Evaluation- Concept

Continuous monitoring and evaluation are highly essential to run quality ECE programmemes. One should regularly evaluate ECE programmemes in the light of programmeme goals, using varied, appropriate, conceptually and technically sound evidence. The terms “Monitoring and Evaluation” are used synonymously for assessing the quality of ECE programmemes.

Monitoring is the provision of information to enable management to assess progress of implementation and take timely decisions to ensure the quality.

Evaluation is the process of determining the degree to which children’s needs are met and desired objectives are achieved.

Evaluation is an ongoing process. An evaluation can take the form of
  • An analysis of a person's behavior
  • An administrative procedure or some other component of an early childhood education programme, in terms of its usefulness or worth.

The evaluator uses the goal statement that was prepared prior to the opening of the center as the basis for making judgments about what is valuable in the programme. The objectives that grow from the goals are also helpful guidelines in assessing the center's programme and the performance of individuals affiliated with that programme.
