Lesson 16 : Measurements of Personality

Self Reports

• Include not only what the person is willing to admit, but the experiences of the person.
• The disadvantages with their method is self reports are unverifiable.
• They are based on the preparation of the person reporting his /her understanding of the issue being asked about and his/her need to appear “good”.
• Overall self reports have been criticized for having poor predictive value of the person’s actual behavior in different situations.
