Lesson 16 : Measurements of Personality

Observation method

This obviously would be a better way of assessing personality but has disadvantages such as

1. it will be not be possible to observe a person in a variety of situations
2. for any length of time.

Another way of handling this problem is to obtain “ratings” from persons who have known the subject for a sufficient period of time. This method has been put to wide use.

Eg. Teachers’ ratings, friends’ ratings etc.
