Lesson 05 : Role of Radio in Development

Introduction

Have you ever heard a rural programme on radio? If you come from a rural area, you probably would have heard. People who present these programmes speak in a language or dialect that the people in your area speak. The programmes may be about farming and related subjects. The programme may comprise of interviews with experts, officials and farmers, folk songs and information about weather, market rates, availability of improved seeds and implements. There would also be programmes on related fields. Radio being a truly massmedium,it played an important role in development and still it is occupying an important place in development communication. In this lesson, we will learn about the contri bution of radio in development.
