Social roles

Each person is expected to behave in accordance with socially prescribed patterns of behavior that relate to the individuals social position and society in which he lives. Two types of roles are

  1. Ascribed roles: roles are assigned by culture and society to an individual.
    Ex:
    Head of the family.
  2. Achieved role: these roles are earned or achieved by the people through their individual effort and competition.
    Ex:
    Elected leaders
