Salient Features of national rural employment guarantee Act 2005 Entitlement

1. NREGA is an Act providing legal guarantee to work.
2. Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) will have principal role in planning and implementation.
3. Transparency, accountability, social audit and people's participation will be ensured through institutional mechanism.
4. Grievance redressal mechanism will be put in place.
5. One-third beneficiaries will be women.
6. Any adult person in the notified area willing to do unskilled manual work can apply for registra60n with the gram panchayat. He/she will then be issued a job card.
7. The job card is the legal instrument that will entitle the registered person to apply for employment under the Act.
8. Registration will be open throughout the year.
9. Employment will be given within 5 km. of the applicant's residence; else additional wages will be paid.
10. No contractor will be allowed to work under the scheme.
