Lesson 13 : Training of Leaders

Key Features of Leaders Training

  1. To develop important skills among the leaders, they must be trained through the method of group interaction, rather than delivering only lectures and note. This helps to facilitate participative leadership.
  2. The training imparted should help in developing and following the values like justice, honesty and equality.
  3. The trainings delivered must be participatory in nature and the views of leaders must also be considered.
  4. In the training sessions, the leaders should have an ample opportunity to take decisions through discussions with the trainers with a broad perspective.
  5. The training sessions should be based on the real needs of the participants.
  6. The venue for training should be close to village life, so that they can compare with their own situation.
  7. In order to maintain the interests of the leaders in different training sessions, there should be practical involvement in work, organize site visits, role playing and cultural programmes should be used more frequently.
  8. The period of training may vary from a day to a few weeks depending upon the subject matter. However, training for development of leadership is a continuous process, which is imparted from time to time according to the needs expressed by the leaders.
