Advantages Of Reinforced Concrete

Lesson 15 : Reinforced Cement Concrete

Advantages Of Reinforced Concrete

The major advantages of reinforced concrete over plain concrete are.

  1. It is economical in ultimate cost.
  2. Its monolithic character gives much rigidity to the structure.
  3. It is durable and fire-resisting. It does not rot or decay and is not attacked by termites.
  4. It is almost impermeable to moisture.
  5. The cost of maintenance of a reinforced concrete structure is almost nil.
  6. The materials used in the reinforced concrete constructions are easily obtainable.
  7. The flexibility of the reinforcement and the fluidity of the concrete make possible the reinforced concrete members to be moulded in any desired shape. Thus reinforced concrete lends itself to a wide range of architectural expressions.
