Lesson 06 : Wood paneling

Method of installation

  • Wood paneling is done through a combination of nailing jand gluing.
  • Furring strips can be used in place of nailing.
  • Furring strips need to be leveled and tightly attached to walls.
  • Furring strips need to be placed at sixteen inches apart starting at the top edge of the wall and working downward to the bottom edge.
  • Meanwhile the furring strips are glued in place, it is preferable to nail them securely on the wall.
  • Wood paneling can also be glued to the existing wall surface.
  • The installation process is started at one corner of the room.
  • As there are variations in the room dimensions, it is necessary to measure the height of the wall along the area where the first paneling be placed.
  • Compare the measurements with the height of paneling and if needed, need to trim the first panel along its bottom edge so that it is temporarily fixed in place with one edge nearly possible to the corner room.
  • If the room corner is irregular, it is difficult to get the panel completely in place.
  • A level is used to level the other edge completely vertical and transform any room corner variations onto the panel so that it is trimmed.
  • When furring strips are used leveling is not needed.
  • It is critical to note that the first panel is exactly plumbed as the position of other panels is determined by it.
  • When all paneling is done, need to install the woodwork and the electrical faceplates.
