Since the dawn of civilization i.e. from men living in caves to date, men discovered and created beautiful environments by copying nature. He collected, arranged, modified and created beautiful materials and surroundings. Eventually he learnt the basics of art like colors, form, texture and pattern etc. to create art objects like painting, Sculpture, architecture, home planning, handicrafts and so on. With the advancement of science and technology, there seems to be a lot of advancement in creating designs, ultimately various professional fields of study have emerged like interior design, architecture, graphics, animation, printing, photography etc.
There are many basic concepts that underly the field of design. They are often categorized differently depending on the materials used and the process. We can group all of the basic terms of design into two categories: elements of art and principles of design. The principles of design are the overarching truths of the profession. They represent the basic assumptions of the world that guide the design practice and the arrangement of objects within a composition.
