Ergonomics Designs of Furniture

The ergonomic design of the furniture must meet the physiological needs of the body during rest, sleep and work. The design of the furniture when not according to the body dimensions, produces degenerative changes in the human body. The wooden stool, Pihari and the cot used in the homes are very uncomfortable. The height of the Pihari and wooden stool is too low when compared with the height of the lower leg. The seat of the stool is hard and there is no backrest both in the case of pihari and stool. Such design produces knee ache, backache, and even the inter vertebral discs can get displaced. The kyphosis posture of the body while lying on a loosely woven cot, sitting on a stool and on a stool fuse the vertebral and damage the inter vertebral discs. The anthropometrical data of the body dimensions of users and the critical dimensions of the furniture is required for designing the furniture according to the physiological needs of the body.
