Soil texture

  • The texture of soil depends upon the size of the particles which make it up.
  • All soils contain sand and clay in varying ratios but they are classified according to the dominant constituent.
  • The particle size is crucial because it controls the amounts of air and water which reach the roots of plants.
  • The different types of soils are

  • There may be intermediate types of soil also which is also a mixtures of two or more types of soils. For example clayey – loam or sandy –loam

  1. Clay soil
  2. Sand soil
  3. Loam soil
