Importance Of Building Ornamentation
Building ornamentation in architecture means embellishment with architectural details. A building’s visual design is not a simple decoration without meaning or intention but equal to a person’s wardrobe or the cover of a book. It is like adding anything to the basic skin or envelope for strengthening its form. Building ornamentation, whether it is planned and placed by the buildings’ designers or added as an afterthought, should contribute to structural beauty and hold the attention of viewers forever. The magnificence of the ornamentation should contribute to social, cultural or political statement.
In architecture, Structural ornament, is an integral part of the framework, includes the shaping and placement of the crown, buttress, cornice,molding, ceiling, and roof and the capital and other elements of the column, as well as the use of building materials of contrasting color or texture. Applied ornament embraces the adornment of structural members with statuary, carving, paint, inlay, mosaic and gild. Buildings designed with these ornamentation includes vernacular buildings of Indian and Mogul styles, churches of Victorian era and Medieval structure of Europe, US Capital are symbolic representation of these magnificent beauty of architectural details. Modern and contemporary buildings do give importance to these for representing glory in design. There are a number of different types of interior products available, namely plaster products, polystyrene products, and the top of the range products which are the polyurethane products. Budget, maintenance, longevity and installation are also crucial factors to consider when planning and selecting which product to use. As with everything related, planning should be from inception to end.
