WHAT WOULD YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE?

  • This is the first course in pharmacology under the BVSc & AH curriculum.
  • In this course the basic concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics will be taught.
  • Pharmacokinetics deals with how and where does a drug move inside the body, to reach the site of action and ultimately to be excreted.
  • Pharmacodynamics deals with how drugs exert their action, through the types of drug receptors, the enzymes involved etc.
  • Besides the above, the mechanism of action, clinical uses and adverse effects of of various drugs acting on the following systems will be covered
    • Cardiovascular system
    • Digestive system
    • Urogenital system
    • Respiratory system
    • Endocrine system
    • Skin and mucous membrane
