  • Fundic stomach (View image)
    • It shows mucosa, submucosa, muscularis and serosa
    • Mucosa is lined by simple columnar epithelium. Lamina propria shows branched tubular fundic glands with neck body and fundus
    • Chief, parietal and mucous neck cells can be identified in H & E preparations
    • Chief cells are cuboidal with basal nucleus and basophilic cytoplasm
    • Parietal cells are pyramidal with strong eosinophilic cytoplasm and central nucleus

    • Gastric pits are deep. The glands are lined by mucous cells
    • The glands are branched coiled tubular type. The nuclei are flattened and located at the base
