  • Hairless skin which consists of very thick epidermis and dermis
  • Epidermis is made up of stratified squamous cornified epithelium and it consists of Stratum corneum, Stratum lucidum, Stratum granulosum, Stratum spinosum and Stratum cylindricum or basale
  • Dermis is having superficial areolar or papillary layer forming finger like papillary projections into epidermis and deeper reticular layer made up of dense irregular connective tissue

  • It is devoid of Stratum lucidum. Hair follicles are present. Sebaceous glands open into neck of follicles
  • Arrectores pilorum muscle arises from papillary layer and pass below sebaceous glands and is inserted to connective tissue sheath surrounding follicle
