ROLE OF POULTRY IN INDIAN ECONOMY

  • India is the third largest producer of eggs and fifth largest producer for poultry broiler in the world. In 2009-10, more than 59844 million eggs were producced. As per 2004-05 census 199.73 million broiler were produced and these broilers yielded 2.3 million  metric tonnes of poultry meat during the year.
  • Presently the poultry industry in total has a turnover of Rs.300 billion (2010) . Of the total production of eggs and broilers states of Andra Pradesh, Maharastra and Punjab combinely contribute more than 50 per cent.
