EMPLOYMENT CONTRIBUTION BY LIVESTOCK SECTOR

• The livestock sector contributes significantly in supplementing family income and in generating gainful employment to the small and marginal farmers and landless labourers in the rural India.
• According to National Sample Survey Organisation’s survey (2004-05) the estimate of employment in animal husbandry sector was 11.44 million as principal status and 11.01 million as subsidiary status, which is 5.8 % of the total working population.
