CHANGING EXPECTATIONS FROM EMPLOYERS OF VETERINARIANS

The employers of veterinarians in the Indian context commonly include government,non-governmant and private organizations. Their expectations regarding the service of the veterinarians are as follows.

Expectations of employers of veterinarians in Government and non-government organizations

  • Confidence and competence in discharging the duties
  • Treating colleagues with respect
  • Providing excellent care for patients and clients
  • Developing and maintaining skill sets to support intellectual curiosity and continued professional development
  • Improving upon and using self-care and life-balance skills.
  • Ability to work in teams. 

Expectations of employers of veterinarians in private organizations

  • Confidence and competence in discharging the duties
  • Familiarising themselves with the routines and practices of the organisation and demonstration of the willingness to learn.
  • Possession of team skills, leadership, and business acumen
  • The private industry has the highest expectations for the newly recruited veterinarians in the area of attitudes, followed by skills, and finally by knowledge.
  • The private industry expect that the vets must come into the industry with at least a basic knowledge of the organisation and processes within the organisation, and an understanding of products, solutions, and services - including those of competitors - as well as consumer behaviour
