This procedure is used for solution that cannot tolerate sterilization by heat.

The Seitz filter of asbestos and burkeĀ filter (or) diatomaceous earth filter are quite absorptive.

More satisfactory filters are made of unglazed porcelain, sintered glass (or) nitrocellulose.

Ultrasonic waves with a frequency of 15,000 to several hundred thousand per second, sound waves denature proteins and disperse a variety of materials and can be used for sterilization.

The effect however has not been of practical value as a means of sterilization.
