  • The bacterial and viral ultra fine sintered glass and membrane filters of pore size not exceeding 1nm are used for filtration of liquids which are heat sensitive.
  • This procedure is used for solution that cannot tolerate sterilization by heat.
  • The Seitz filter of asbestos and burkeĀ filter (or) diatomaceous earth filter are quite absorptive.
  • More satisfactory filters are made of unglazed porcelain, sintered glass (or) nitrocellulose.
  • Ultrasonic waves with a frequency of 15,000 to several hundred thousand per second, sound waves denature proteins and disperse a variety of materials and can be used for sterilization.
  • The effect however has not been of practical value as a means of sterilization.
