Contagious pleuropneumonia of swine
CONTAGIOUS PLEUROPNEUMONIA OF SWINE

Caused by Haemophilus pleuropneumoniae. Endotoxins produce lesions
- Spreads through respiratory route by infected animals
- Young animals up to 6 months of age are susceptible
- Death with one day or two
- Mortality 50%
- Clinical signs include fever, respiratory distress, nasal discharge mixed with blood
- Characteristic lesions are fibrinopurulent pneumonia, fibrinous pleuritis, sequestration of lungs, meningitis and arthritis
- Microscopically, alveolar and interlobular oedema, dilation of lymphatics, congestion, haemorrhage and intravascular fibrinous thrombus
