Infectious thrombo-embolic-meningo-encephalitis of cattle

INFECTIOUS THROMBO - EMBOLIC  MENINGIO ENCEPHALITIS OF CATTLE

  • Caused by Haemophilus somnus
  • Normal inhabitant of nasal cavities, prepuce ,female genital tract of healthy cattle
  • The course of disease is rapid without clinical signs fever, weakness, staggering, somnolence, ataxia, blindness and paralysis. Sometimes pneumonia and arthritis
  • Mortality rate is very high
  • Characteristic lesions are multiple areas of necrosis and haemorhages in brain
  • Microscopically, vasculitis, thrombosis and infarction; meningitis with fibrin opurulent exudate
