Synonym

• Tick borne fever

Definition

• It is a febrile disease, mild, non – fatal nature, associated with tick infestation in sheep and cattle

Etiology

• Ehrlichia phagocytophilia

Transmission

• By ticks (Ixodus ricinus)

Clinical signs

• Fever
• Lymphopaenia
• Neutropaenia
• Thrombocytopaenia

Lesion

• Splenomegaly

Diagnosis

• Identification of the organisms in circulating granulocytes and monocytes
• Giemsa or Leishman stains are used
