POLYARTHERITIS IN CALVES

Caused by Chlamydia psittacci

  • Infection is characterized by involvement of all joints of the limbs, vertebral and mandibular articulation
  • Joints are swollen
  • Synovial tissues oedematous and thickened
  • Synovial fluid contains flakes of fibrin
  • Elementary bodies are seen in the mononuclear cells and synovial cells in smears stained with Giemsa
