Enzootic abortion of ewes

ENZOOTIC ABORTION OF EWES
  • Occurs in goats also caused by Chlamydia psittaci
  • Zoonotic importance
  • Causes severe septicaemia and abortion in pregnant animals
  • In sheep, abortion occurs in last month of gestation
  • Placentitis is the main lesion
  • Cotyledons are dark red in color
  • Uterine surface of the chorion is covered with flaky, yellow exudate
  • Focal necrosis, oedema, mononuclear cell infiltratian; cytoplasmic elementary bodies in tissue sections
