Sway Back or Enzootic ataxia

SWAY BACK OR ENZOOTIC ATAXIA

  • In sheep raised in England and Australia suffers from the disease called “Sway back”. due to deficiency of copper.
  • Characterized by incoordination and weakness of the hind legs.
  • Spastic paralysis and blindness occurs.
  • Lesions are more pronounced in new born lambs.
  • Demyelization and extensive softening and necrosis in cerebral hemispheres occurs.
