Introduction

Intensive follow-up is one way of outbreak investigation of a disease in a small or large population in a particular geographical area.

The principle of outbreak investigation is the same as the examination of affected animal in a hospital. But it is a holistic approach.
-
The total population (unaffected, infected and dead individuals) is considered rather than an individual in the population.
-
Apart from the population, etiological factors that are influencing over the occurrence of diseases are also investigated.
-
The combined investigation of clinical, epidemiological and pathological diagnosis has been carried out during disease outbreak investigation.

Major objectives of outbreak in vestigations are,

Halting the progress of the disease
-
Determining the reasons for the outbreak
-
Initiating corrective measures, and
-
Recommending procedures to reduce the risk of future outbreaks.
