Resistance

RESISTANCE

  • The viruses are resistant to lipid. However, the viruses are relatively acid-labile, and slow freezing at -10 to -20oC (14 - 4o F) is harmful to the virus. The viruses are inactivated by 50°C/3 hours and 60°C/15 minutes. ß-propiolactone, iodophores and phenolic compounds also inactivate the viruses. The viruses are very stable in the presence of protein and can survive for years in blood stored at 20°C.
