Cytoplasmic – Genic Male Sterility (CGMS)
  • This is a case of cytoplasmic male sterility where dominant nuclear gene restores fertility.
  • This system is utilized for the production of hybrids in onion, maize and many other crops.
  • The A line which is male sterile is maintained by crossing it with isogenic B line (Maintainer line).
  • The B line is similar to that of A line in all characters (isogenic) except fertile cytoplasm.
