Broodiness

BROODINESS

  • It is the incubation behaviour in birds.
  • Observed in broilers, turkeys but have disappeared in layers.
  • During broodiness ovaries regress and egg production ceases and broodiness becomes undesirable.
  • Prolactin is the major hormone responsible for broodiness; its level increases before broodiness which causes ovarian regression and interferes with steroidogenesis.
