PRIMARY CULTURING OF SAMPLE

  • The samples received for ABST are of different types-like pus, swabs from wound, milk in the case of mastitis, nasal washings in the case of respiratory diseases, ear swabs from cases of otitis and it varies. Samples are expected to be collected and sent in the available transport medium like Amies transport medium or peptone water.
  • Proper labeling and brief history about the sample is highly essential for a good reliable and effective reporting. Place the samples in a refrigerator until you process, though immediate processing is available.  
  • Inoculate the test sample by streaking method in agar plates using standard microbiological techniques to visualize individual colonies. After 24 hrs, select the colonies of uniform morphological character and grown in large numbers in the Primary culture plate for testing.
