Gross motility and mass activity

GROSS MOTILITY AND MASS ACTIVITY

Gross motility - Wavy movement of sperm when observed under naked eye.
Mass activity - Collective movement of sperm when examined under microscope with out cover slip.

  • Mass activity is observed soon after semen collection.
  • A drop of semen is placed on a slide and examined for mass activity using a light microscope under a magnification of 50X without cover slip.
  • The activity is graded as described by Settergren (1984).
