PRESERVATION AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

Introduction

Semen is preserved at room temperature at 18-25^oC with suitable extender

• This is a very old method of semen preservation.
• In areas where refrigeration facility is poor, semen may be stored at ambient temperature.
• The keeping quality of semen is poor at room temperature due to the faster utilization of nutrients by the spermatozoa and also due to bacterial multiplication.
• So obviously it is mandate to add sufficient antibiotic to control the multiplication of bacteria.
• Various workers have evolved different extenders for the preservation of semen at room temperature (18 – 25^oC). Some of them are as follows.
