Lesson 1: Introduction to Creativity

Dimensionality of Creativity

Creativity has been modeled either a one, two or even three dimensional concept.

One dimensional Model

  • A one dimensional concept of creativity may connect it to divergent thinking, remote association or just plain imagination. Creative ideas may be seen only as new, unique or original.
  • These ideas may be described as imaginative, intuitive, original, farsighted, insightful and visionary etc.

Two Dimensional Model

  • A two dimensional model describes creativity not only as imagination but also expressed as applied imagination.
  • Creative ideas should be feasible in terms of expression or formulation in an external media such as blue prints, tape recordings, mathematical formulae, prototypes or common language.

Three dimensional Model

  • This model suggests that creative person must not only conceive the original ideas, externalize them in form and pattern through some transmittable media, but also take root and spread as a contribution to human life or society.
