Lesson 13 : Developmental Levels in Art in Children
Mosaics
Mosaics are surface decoration made of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other inlaid materials. The young child can make a very simple mosaic using torn, rolled or crumbled or cut colored paper. An art book with illustrations of mosaics can be shown to children for better idea of such project. Mosaics are more attractive if they are pasted on a background of colored paper or cardboard. Interesting variations can be made from books of wall paper samples, which are often discarded by wall paper stores.
Some children may be able to make slightly more complex mosaics by combining a variety of materials such as gravel, pebbles, seeds, pods and various types of grains in imaginative ways.
