Lesson 14 : Role of Creativity in over All Development

The role of creative play in development

For adults, play is what they do when they have finished their work. It is a form of relaxation. For young children, play is what they do all day. Playing is living and living is playing. Young children do not differentiate between play, learning and work. Children are by nature playful. They enjoy playing and will do so whenever they get the opportunity.

For young children, mental development, language development, growth of their ability to deal with problems of life, social development, growth of their imaginations results from play. Muscles develop through play, too. Play is an activity. It does not necessarily result in a product. It may involve one child or groups of children. It may be built around toys and tools or may involve nothing more than the child’s imagination. A play period may last a few minutes or go on for days
