4 -6 years: Understanding Conversational rules

By the age 4, mostly children are aware that they must adjust their speech to match the speaker. That is they must think whether the person they are speaking to, can understand them or not. For ex. A young child shortens his sentences, simplifies his vocabulary and speaks more slowly when talking to even younger children. Thus, the ability to modify the vocabulary to the level of the listener continues to develop during childhood.
