Lesson 14 : Requirements for establishment of Childcare Center Building

Accessibility of Facilities

  • All users must have access to the building, its program, and its materials. A child care center should be close to home or workplace or public transportation.
  • Entrance ways and the areas surrounding them can be scaled to the children’s requirements for easy usage.
  • The ground must be well maintained and the building itself must be inviting. Hence building size, scale, colour, texture and design should be considered.
  • The child care center should have a separate entrance if it is housed in a shared for easy identification.
  • The parking area should be near to the center’s entrance.
  • Provision of signs, super graphics or pathways, tile arrows etc for easy identification and location of the required places of visit.
  • the receptionist’s or secretary’s office should has a large glass window for maintaining visual contact with people as they arrive and parents or visitors also will feel more comfortable about asking for assistance.
  • The entry also should be accessible to the director’s office so that he/she is highly visible and readily available.
