Lesson 09: Gender development during ECE

Concept of Gender

Children learn to understand to which gender group they belong to, a stable part of one’s self-concept during the preschool years. They also learn about the roles and expectations associated with their own and the other sex. These beliefs, roles, and expectations are shared cultural concepts, yet each child develops his own set of individual beliefs about the sexes.
