EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT
Lesson 22: Out door play activities in ECE center

Gardening activities

In the early childhood period gardening is for play and learning. They must be taught how to take care of a plant, so that they do not cause any damage to plants. Activities like watering plants, planting trees, sowing seeds, pulling out unwanted plants can be given to the children. It is also advisable to have a garden in each ECE centre. It would be preferably a flower garden. Different kinds of trees need be there in the garden. Besides flowers and other trees there should be sufficient space for children to do garden work. To work in the garden, they are to be provided with child sized garden tools specifically made of them which are soft edged, smooth and light in weight. Hence it is wiser to provide them with tools made out of wood or bamboo.
