Since the selection of the type of family for such placement is very vital to child's future, great care should be taken in deciding upon the home as there is every chance of child getting emotionally disturbed, because of lack of congenial atmosphere for his growth. Therefore, the study of the child, his personality needs, family background, capacities, behaviour, interests, hobbies, likes, dislikes is very important. Similarly, a study of the foster family is also very important in order to see whether there will be proper adjustment between the child and the family.
