Socialization

Socialization refers to a process through which an individual child acquires traits, values, attitudes, beliefs, behavior in conformity with social norms or standards.

The study of social development covers 3 broad areas.

• The development of social awareness i.e. the child’s understanding of the accepted ways of behaving (socializing) in the society or learning socially approved ways of behaving.
• The development of social behavior or leaning appropriate social roles i.e. the specific behavior patterns in children which will aid or hinder their development – pro-social & unsocial behavior.
• The development of social interactions/development of social attitudes i.e. the child’s ability to deal with different people in the environment.

All these three areas contribute to the ultimate level of social development of the child.
