The Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, is implementing a number of schemes for the development and welfare of children, namely:

• Operation Blackboard-It was started as a consequence of the New Education Policy and the purpose is to ensure minimum essential facilities in primary schools
• Non-formal Education
• Reimbursement of Tuition Fee charged from girls in higher classes to States/Union Territories
• National Scholarships Scheme
• National Loan Scholarships Scheme
• Scheme for up gradation of Merit of SC/ST students
• Scheme of Scholarships at secondary stage for Talented Children from Rural Areas
• Scholarship Scheme for Study in Approved residential schools
• Bal Bhavan Society
• The programmes of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare that have a direct bearing on child welfare.
