Family and Child Welfare 3 (3+0)

Lesson 27 : Faster Care system

Problem conditions - lead to Foster care

Almost all families whose children enter foster care have multiple problems and needs, it is difficult to identify a single principle reason to each placement. When problems are classified overlapping is evident and social worker’s judgments inevitably are subjective and imprecise in varying degrees.

Reason for placement:

  • Mental illness
  • Child behaviour
  • Neglect or abuse
  • Physical abuse
  • Unwillingness to continue care
  • Family dysfunction
  • Abandonment or desertion
  • Other problems
