Suinn’s (1976) Typology

Suinn classifies persons into two types in order to predict who will be prone to heart ailments.

  1. Type A persons are described as being competitive, striving for achievement, having a sense of urgency, and being aggressive and impatient. They prefer to work alone when under pressure. They tend to be uncomfortable, awkward and insecure in interpersonal relationships. These people are prone to coronary heart disease.

  2. Type B individuals have opposite characteristics. Sociable, relaxed, leisurely, and laid back, and are comfortable in interpersonal relationships and enjoy working with others.
