Lesson 6 : Development of Personality- Behavioural perspective

Self Efficacy theory

  • Social learning theorists see people as highly active, process information and regulate their own behavior.
  • They interact with environment actively and this interaction depends on their sense of self efficacy.
  • Self Efficacy is defined as “people’s judgment of how well they can organize and bring to bear their cognitive, social and behavioral skills in particular activities.”

Perceived self efficacy will determine

  1. How people will respond to difficult situations and try to handle them.
  2. How fearful people will feel in handling new, unknown and difficult situations.
