Meaning: One of the most important aspects of human beings which distinguish them clearly from the animals is intelligence. It is both a part of and as factor that enhances personality development. Innumerable psychologists have worked on intelligence and the entire “psychological testing” has developed based on testing of intelligence.
Definitions: Intelligence has been defined in various ways depending upon the psychologists testing procedures.
Weschler (1958) – Intelligence in the capacity to act purposefully, to think rationally, and to deal effectively with the environment.
Weschler (1975) - Intelligence is the capacity to understand the world and the resourcefulness to cope with its challenges.
Intelligence is defined by psychologists in various other ways including concepts such as thinking and reasoning (Sternberg & Powell, 1983) Capacity to learn and amass knowledge, Social competence ( Ziegler & Seitz, 1982).
