Lesson 08 :Orientation Of The Building Plan

Introduction

  • The science of building design is the collection of scientific knowledge that focuses on the analysis and control of the physical phenomena affecting buildings. According to the ancient study a building has to be in tune with the five elements - ether, air, fire, water and earth - which influence our environment.

  • Only when their is harmony with these natural forces there will be joy, health and happiness.
  • Vaastu and Feng Shui are building sciences that originate from two vastly different cultural backgrounds and civilizations.
  • The underlying basic principles of both however are purported to follow the laws of Nature; and both share some common approaches.
  • The primary objective of both is ‘the creation of harmonious energy within dwellings to create a good feeling and to attract a good life’. Both encompass the art and science of space alignment, positioning, planning and orientating structures and interior objects in relation to energy flows, to heighten positive energies and minimize the negative ones.
  • One can achieve maximum benefits and live a life of happiness and well being by building the house in such a way that the elements of nature in balance.
  • The term Orientation is purely a technical study of building according to natures principle is important in reducing energy consumption and keeping the interior temperature comfortable. Sun rises in the east and sets in the west and is higher in the summer sky and lower in winter. These basic facts and the several particulars of each site and climate, landscape features such as trees, hills, and predominant orientation of the winds should be taken into account when building a home.
  • It is positioning of the house in a plot in the best manner to achieve maximum benefits of natural features like wind, sunlight and to save the house from the heavy rain strokes, direct sunrays and strong wind. Although any building will have different orientations for its different sides, the orientation can refer to a particular room, or to the most important façade of the building.
  • Appropriate building orientation can help minimize energy demands by making effective use of sun, light, air, and shading. Building on a new site provides an ideal opportunity to incorporate energy issues into the design.
